you can expect to see content typical of dragon age's tone and themes. some of this may be triggering, so please proceed with caution for: depictions of war, body horror, issues of oppression, slavery, violence, and sensuality. i always tag with the 'cw trigger' or 'tw trigger' format; if you need something specific tagged, please let me know!you can unpack the overt issues of racism / oppression without perpetuating it. the devs ripped from many different cultures without paying any respect to the sources, all of which are present voices within the darpc & wider fandom. if i sense that their voices are being disregarded, it will be an instant hardblock.

portrayal

my solas is very headcanon based; a good portion of the source material is ignored due to the caustic disregard for cultural influence. please do not lift any worldbuilding / character study from this blog. it's not cool. for that reason, i tend to avoid other solas blogs - it's absolutely not personal; i'd like to respect their space as much as i'd like them to respect mine.i explore solas through a celtic lens. it is not the only lens with which to view him, but as my immediate heritage is irish, i'll be extending that to his portrayal, as well as gdl's welsh influence being that he is a welsh actor. both of those influences have been under occupation, and that will lend to how i write solas.I will not curb solas' mannerisms, attitudes, or behaviors for you. solas is mean, sometimes. he's the face and leader of a massive rebellion; if he doesn't like something, he'll tell you or show you. but please recognize that this is not reflective of my attitude towards you or your muse.

i adore shipping and i'd love to explore any kind of connection - however, i am slow to ship and i like to develop chemistry. i have been 'collected' before and it's not a good feeling. if your sole goal is to get a solas to ship with, this is not the blog for you. that being said - i am all for doing chemistry threads to see how our muses can fit together. there is no forceshipping on this blog.i will only engage exclusivity with shipping, especially for canon characters. with original characters, i'm much more open and i love forming mains / affiliates! i always want to incorporate my partners into my portrayals. i am multiverse and multiship, so please, don't be shy.

second of mythal, he who hunts alone, the dread wolf, god of lies, betrayal, rebellion, roamer of the beyond. they say the ocean rose to take your hand, and gave up her salt for your skin. from shell and bone you made your body, from string and silk your hair. you had no need for sharpness, yet. all your teeth came later.

abilities

  • mastery of spirit-based magic / fade manipulation, as well as primal magic.

combat

  • as fen'harel, he utilizes his orb + dagger style of fighting for close, quick combat. as 'solas', he carried a staff while he heals from uthenera & to remain at a range.

  • solas is very mobile. much like a wolf, he can skirt the edges to calculate his next move, then dash in for close attacks.

  • using his dread wolf form takes a significant amount of energy after uthenera, but upon shifting, the dread wolf will act as a crowd control / bulwark to dominate the field and push in enemies.

headcanons

SOLAS' WOLF FORM IS SOMETHING HE CHOSE BEFORE GAINING A BODY - IT IS BASED ON THE Cú Sidhe of irish legend: a black / green spectral hound that guided souls upon death. wolves in irish folklore are symbols of protection, omen, and guidance - all things that could be attributed to an observant sense of wisdom. when solas gained a body, his wolf form was implemented in war, forever changing its spectral appearance into one of a ferocious beast.
 
solas is responsible for the orb + dagger style of fighting for mages, as the orb and dagger are both originally powerful foci of his.
 
hair has always been a symbol of pride and union for the elves - the 'inevitable balding' of the ancients is colonizer rhetoric and has roots in conformist tactics such as forcibly shaving hair to detach someone from their culture. solas made the conscious decision to shave his hair upon waking up out of grief and because he no longer aligned himself with the evanuris or what has become of the elves, and felt detached. it's backwards thinking he slowly overcomes and will regrow his hair in time.
 
mythal aided solas in crafting his body and that's why her mark is born on his face. it is not a source of compulsion so much as it is a blending of her spirit with his. when he removes it, he is not 'freeing himself of compulsion'; he is trying to free himself of their link entirely. it is the act that signifies the start of his own rebellion.
